Theocracy - S/T

2003 will be remembered as a very good heavy metal year from a christian perspective. Numbers of great albums were released and some of them could very well be considered as legendary ones in a couple of years. Theocracy's selftitled debut could very well be one of them.

Playing bombastic power metal with soaring vocals, Theocracy reminds a bit of Avantasia, Rhapsody and company. The interesting thing is that this is a one man project by a man named Matt Smith, and his musical skills are just stunning.
But one thing is to have musical skills, one other to use these skills to create great songs. But here has Matt succeeded completely.

There are huge variety in the songs, from the ballad Sinner to the fast and catchy Theocracy a$ in the middle of them we also find two epics The serpent's kiss and The healing hands.

With this 9-song, 57-minutes long debut album, Theocracy puts themselves high on the power metal ladder, where mighty artists like Stratovarius, Gamma Ray and the above mentioned bands already are located.

The production, which is also done by Matt, is surprisingly good (near perfect). Beside using a drummachine the sound of them is still enjoyable.

This is an album you cannot possible afford to miss if you somewhat like power metal. Because it's the best christian power metal album I've heard. Go and get it!
