Crimson Moonlight - interview July 2003

This is an interview that I did with Pilgrim, Petter and Gustav from the Swedish black metal band, Crimson Moonlight. some hours before their gig in Keuruu, Finland 21.06.2003.

Winterstorm:Hi! How are you doin.?

Fine, thanks. It has been a long trip but it.s cool being here. Some of us are visiting Finland for the first time. Hubbe has played together with Sanctifica at this place before.

Winterstorm:Will you do many gigs this summer? Any tour?

We have 3 gigs in the schedule right now, and we have had to decline a few because it wouldn.t fit with our jobs and stuff. Hopefully we will get more.
No tour planned.

Winterstorm: Your latest record .The Covenant Progress. is a far cry from the older .Eternal Emperor.. Why did you leave the symphonic style for the more brutal?

We developed as musicians and wanted to play more Scandinavian, guitar-based, music. The line-up changes have also had an effect on our style.

Winterstorm: Since Hubbe joined Crimson Moonlight, How is Sanctifica doing?

They have laid low a bit because they have been travelling. They are about to change name and they have new songs in the vein of .Negative B.. Hubbe joined Crimson Moonlight because this is the music he really is into. You could say Sanctifica and Crimson Moonlight have changed members with each other, but it was not done with purpose.

Winterstorm: Have you got much critic of . The Covenant Progress. from both Christians and non-Christians?

Yes, mostly positive from both.

Winterstorm: Have you ever been treated badly because of your faith and music style?

A gig in a church that we would do in Nässjö, Sweden, was cancelled because we were considered as Satanists. However we got an offer to play at a secular concert the same day and that was a very good gig in all ways. It was a good spiritual atmosphere and we got good contact with the audience.
We think God led us there.

Winterstorm: What.s the vision with Crimson Moonlight?

The vision with Crimson Moonlight is to crush prejudices about whom God is. We want to tell metallers our view about how it is to be a Christian. It.s not about superficial stuff, how you look like or what kind of music style you like etc.

Winterstorm: Which 3 CDs would you bring to a desolate island?

Pilgrim: Horde; Hellig Usvart, CM; The Covenant Progress and Antestor; The Return of the Black Death.
Petter: 3 CDs that I possibly could bring are CM; The Covenant Progress, Extol; Undeceived and Celtic Worship.
Gustav: Death; Individual thought patterns, Hildegard Von Bringen and Grøde; Den tredje Høst.

Winterstorm: Which other interests do you have besides the band?

Pilgrim: History, Theology and building care.
Petter: Theology, History and my-soon-to-be wife whom I.ll marry next week. Gustav: Philosophy/view of life, my wife and football.

Winterstorm:I hope you got the sword for your scene show with you. Was it hard to take it through the customs?

Actually, we have 3 swords with us. No, it was easy, we just had to treat them a little (laughing)

Winterstorm: Since you are in Finland, will you be bathing sauna tonight??

Petter: Not me! Pilgrim and Gustav: Yeah, if we got time, possibility and if it.s wood heated. I (Pilgrim) tried once a wood heated. Man, it was hot!

Winterstorm: Yeah, the wood heated saunas definitely rock! Thanks a lot for this interview. Is there anything you want to tell these who read this? Yeah, Check out and buy our new record.
