Holy Blood - June 2004

This is an interview I did with the upcoming metal masters, Holy Blood

Victory:
Hello there! How are things in Ukraine? Holy Blood: Glory to God, there is peace in Ukraine! Victory:
Can you introduce the band for the readers. What is Holy Blood about?
Holy Blood:
The band was formed in autumn 1999. Our goal was forming a band, which could constantly play for serving the informal youth. Fedor Buzilevich (guitar/vocal in Holy Blood) was pastor of this serve. At the beginning we were playing brutal hardcore, but later we changed our style to brutal death. In 2001 we changed style again and started playing melodic death. In 2002 our band recorded our first album, called The Wanderer.

In 2002 style we changed style to folk-metal. With this style our band obtained the most success on the time of its existing. We were being invited to different metal-fests. In 2003-2004 we recorded a side-project of Fedor Buzilevich's band Requital (the album "Retribution For Sin") which style is brutal death, which consisted of songs of Holy Blood. In 2004 we recorded our second album, named "Waves Are Dancing". Now band is searching the most ingenious distributors for releasing the album

Our name came after sermon of pastor Michail Pohil from church "The Rock". He preached about eucharist. During the sermon he a couple of times used word-combination "Holy Blood" and we liked it, because it was dark and contained deep spiritual meaning.

Victory:
what bands do you compare Holy Blood to?
Holy Blood:
Our style for today is connected with fascination of such bands as: Ensiferum, Moonsorrow, Cruachan, Thyrfing, Mitothyn, and Finntroll.

Victory:
It seems like you've been a hidden gem for some years. Hopefully that'll change now. Is Holy Blood signed by any label?
Holy Blood:
Up to the point, we haven't co-operated with any label. There were some tryings to make a connection with Rowe Production, but it was unsuccessfully.

Victory:
About your newest release, what can a listener expect from it?
Holy Blood:
We think, those, who will buy our album "Waves Are Dancing", will not take it away from their CD-players for a month. As Evrovision of this year had shown, slavonic folklore is very popular now, and our album is imbrued with slavonic melodics.

Victory:
What's the primary goal with Holy Blood? What do you want to achieve?
Holy Blood:
Firstly, we wanted Ukrainian metalians to come to God through our music. But now we understand that God calls us to serve not only in Ukraine, but over its borders too. It is hard to be the first, but it is pleasantly that we gave a push for appearances of other christian metal bands in Ukraine. I.e., you can listen some of them on our site www.holyblood.metal-forever.com

Victory:
Is metal, or rather, christian metal popular in Ukraine?
Holy Blood:
There are not many listeners of metal in Ukraine. But there are a lot of talented bands, which are popular only in Ukraine. Because of it, it is very hard to get on metal scene for christians. With help of God, we got some popularity in metalianship.

Victory:
How about christianity in general. Are there many christians in Ukraine?
Holy Blood:
Kiev church "God Embassy" is the 3-rd in Europe in size. Besides of it, there are a lot of different on size christian churches. Apropos, our state official religion is Orthodoxy.

Victory:
Ok, back to your band: What does the future hold for Holy Blood?
Holy Blood:
Bible says : "Don't care for tomorrow day, he'll care for you himself".

Victory:
Finally, name your 5 best bands?
Holy Blood:
1 Slechtvalk
2 Immortal Souls
3 Symphathy
4 Narnia
5 Rob Rock
