Victory:
Anders here from VictoryZine, Finland.
Chaz:
Hi, Anders. How are you doing?
Victory:
I'm fine, thank you. How about you did you have a good morning?
Chaz:
Yes, I had. Just getting started here!
Victory:
Let's go directly to my questions, first you could tell me something about your background. How did you join Jacob's Dream?
Chaz:
I was with biogenesis and I got know the guys when we were doing shows together. When their singer decided to leave the band they asked if I wanted to come on a trial and later I was in the band! I have now been there for a year and half.
Victory:
How does he feel being in the band, do like being involved in Jacob's Dream?
Chaz:
It's wonderful, I couldn't be happier. I couldn't ask for more. It's been great from the very start. I think the guys have been wonderful to me.
Victory:
That's great! Now, I'm pretty sure the fans would like to hear what you have to say about the new album. How do you feel about it and could you describe shortly all the songs, what they are both musically and lyrically?
Chaz:
It's pretty exciting, and I think it's good to see that hard work pays off. I very thrilled about it. I been recorded a lot of things where I've said that I could do this to improve it, but not on this one. I'm really impressed of it!
Drama of ages is a midpaced, is kind of mysterious kind of a song. It probably has the most memorial chorus. Not too heavy and not too melodic. Lyrically it's talking about the different times of mankind. How there can be hard times but how all things lead up to a divine purpose in the end.
Keeper of the crown is a heavier song. It reminds of old metallica meets iron maiden. It takes you through some really interesting instrumental. I'm really proud of it. Lyrically, it turns out to be a praise song to God.
Spinning leaf is a song I wrote for the band. It has a dark sound and tells about a man pondering the truth and try to search for the truth and in the end coming back to what he did believe in from the start. This one I'm also really proud of! [heheh]
Stand or fall is one of my favourite songs on the album. It's the closest thing to a ballade we have on the album. It questions if we'll stay or fall in the end.
Tempest is, lyrically, a kind of a strange song [hehehe]. Musically it's a kind of heavy. It tells about a man who faces that he's being drawn to both sides, where both God and the devil want him on their side. But I'm not sure and I hope that John doesn't kill me if I'm wrong! [hahaha]
Third way is one of the heaviest songs on the album. It talks about the government, how they can take advantage with their positions of their fellow man. It's another song, which has a dark touch to it.
Forever winter. Again it's a song that lyrically I'm not sure what it is about.[hehehe] I think it points out a reason when a man is being wrong. But I'm not sure and I hope that John doesn't kill me if I'm not telling the truth! [hehehe]
Drowning man is easier to explain. It's one other favourite of my. It's about a alcoholic and refuses to get any help. Many people has got hurt due to alcohol so we decided to write a song about it. Musically, it's kind of a darker song, a slower darker Queensr˙che.
Deceiver of the nations, the title speaks for it self. It really remind me of early iron maiden, like the trooper with a lot of double leads. I love to do that one live.
Cutting words is musically a very dark late deliverance sound and lyrically basicily a person who struggles with bitterness and forgiveness. It's about your sharp words, how they can hurt people. We really don't have right to condemn others. We're to forgive the ones who hate us, we have to love and let God handle them.
Victory(Victory: I love that title!!!)
speaks for itself. It's encouraging Christians to stand up and be proud of what they believe in. Musically victory is interesting. While cutting is dark, this sounds victorious.
The final song is called At the gates and is about when all the Christian can celebrate when they finally come to the gate of heaven. When their journey is over and it's time of celebration!
Victory:
About the lyrics, I've noticed that the lyrics are more bold on this one than on the other two. How did Metalblade react to this?
Chaz:
Metalblade expect quality and don't care so much about the lyrical content. They care about quality. I often wondered how they feel about the lyrics but when I asked the other guys about it they told me this.
Victory:
Will you do a major tour to support the album?
Chaz:
We're definitely doing a tour, we've talked a lot but we don't have any dates yet. We want to hit USA very hard this time. We want people know here that we meaning business. I.m very excited about it. But I don't know all things that's happening and I since I'm the rookie I get to know things last. [hahaha]
Victory:
What are your favourite Jacob Dream songs to perform live? And what can the fans expect from a show, will there be any old goodies?
Chaz:
My personal favourite is the newest ones because I put a lot of passion to it. But I don't think it's just because I'm in it, I seriously believe that it's JD best album.
The fans can except some old songs as well, from every album and perhaps even our demo! Among them Theater of war, bleeding tree and sanctuary will absolutely be played live.
But you can expect a very good show, with a lot of energy and passion.
Victory:
What about that acoustic album it has been talks about?
Chaz:
Right now it's just a rumour until I get the other guys convinced to do it! [hehehe] But I would like to do it. If I just can get the rest of the guys to agree, we'll do it. [hehehehe]
Victory:
What about Politics? Where most of the metal bands are silent today, Jacob's Dream lift their voice loud and clear!
Chaz:
The guys in JD are all thinkers. We watch the news and see how the effect the world. Something we see we just have to speak about. It affects so many people. It's a good thing to live we're we do, because we're allowed to do it and we try to do it as lot as we can! [hahaha].
Victory:
[hehehe]Was it any problem to adjust your voice from the biogenesis to the Jacob's Dream song. I mean the sound of Biogenesis isn't exactly the same as in Jacob's Dream.
Chaz:
With biogenesis I did put my style together with my guitarist's but what I really want to do is what I'm doing in Jacob's Dream. My voice is melodic metal!
Victory:
About all the bad things happening on earth. What can or should we do about it?
Chaz:
All bad stuff happends here because it's the devil's domain but we have just to pray to God that he'll guide us through. That we might love them into the kingdom of God.
Victory:
Finally, can you share about your favourite concerts and albums?
Chaz:
Best concert:
Iced Earth were really great, specially musically. Evergray were really impressive with a lot of emotion. They were really inspiring and made me want to go to that potential. Melodic is moving up the later in the states. In the last 10 year melodic metal has been dead here.
Best albums:
I really enjoy Glorious burden from Iced Earth and also Evergray's last ones and also Soilwork, but that is as heavy I go! [hahaha]. I most love melodic metal. But Veni Domine from Sweden is a very impressive as well. Fall babyllon fall is one heck of a album! I also love Saviour Machine, must due to Eric Clayton and his majestic voice.
Victory:
Thanks a lot for doing this interview. It was really an honour talking to you!
Chaz:
Thank you and hopefully we'll see you on the road! Take care!
