I had the oppurtunity to see the Finnish band Jumpin China at the Humlefestival in August this year
and I also had a chat with them after their rockin gig. Here is that interview...
Ergonymous: Can you tell us shortly about the band's history?
JC: Miika, Markus and Jarmo started plying some grind/speed in 1994 and then Maria stepped into
the band in 1997 (that resulted in a change of style...) and Juha, Jukka and Jarkko
started in 2000.
Ergonymous: Which are your musical influences, there seems to be quite many?
JC: Mainly bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Skunk Anansie, PUYA (some kind of latin HC) and
SUPERGROOVE.
Ergonymous: What is the purpose with Jumpin China?
JC: We want to change attitudes about christian music. We do not categorize ourselves as a
gospelband but a rock band. We want to play in places where christian bands normally don't play.
We don't actually like to play at christian festivals. Our mission is not to entertain christians.
Ergonymous: You'll release a new CD in september, tell us about it.
JC: The old EP is now sold out and we weren't actually satisfied with it. The new single
will contain two new songs, one remix and hopefully some multimedia. We hope that this will
be much better than the old.
Ergonymous: What are your future plans?
JC: Juha Kyyrö and Juha Ruusunen are continously promoting the band, and hopefully we'll
get out to Europe soon.
Ergonymous: What kind of feedback have you recieved?
JC: Different kinds of feedback but because of our broad style no one can say they hates us...
Ergonymous: Any special memorable gigs you've made?
JC: - Oranssiklubi in Helsinki, the place was really crowded, hot and wet...
- Desibelitour in Turku was also great
Ergonymous: Name your best four CD's...
JC:
- PUYA, Fundamental
- Supergroove, Traction
- Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blood sugar sex magic
- Faith no more, King for a day
Ergonymous: Thank you very much and good luck with your band!
