This is an interview I did with Karl, the singer from the heavy metal band Strange Land.
Victory:
Hi Karl, how are you doing over there?
Karl:
Great just got done working and ready to cool out
Victory:
What are you working with? Well, you could as well introduce yourself and tell the readers about your band.
Karl:
My name is Karl Mustard and I 'm the lead singer for the band Strangeland. We do 80's style heavy metal.
Victory:
...and how do you explain to a person that has never heard about you? What are your influences?
Karl:
Well we do several different kinds of music. I would say we are a cross between dokken and Jacob's Dream.
Victory:
That sounds very cool!
Karl:
I have several influences some secular like Robert Plant, Rob Halford and also Mike sweet from Stryper.
Victory:
As the reader might now realize, you are the singer of the band. Can you tell us more about your career as a singer
Karl:
I am now 41. In my early 20's I sang for many different secular bands. untill my late 30's.
Victory:
Was it metal bands?
Karl:
Ooooh yeah! I can't think of singing anything else!
Victory:
Amen, to that! Talking about "amens" how come you, as a christian, sang in secular bands?
Karl:
That was before I was saved.
Victory:
Interesting...could you share little about your lifestory then. I bet many would be interesting in hearing it!
Karl:
Well. As I said i Sang in many metal bands but, in the mid nineties I was married and had a small child. Not a good situation to try to be a rock star. It was tearing up my family being gone all the time. so in 94 I Quit singing to focus on my family. But that dident help I was looking for things to fill the void of not playing, drinking and doing drugs. Well I have a friend that is a christian and he asked me to come to his church. And like any no beliver I blew him off. but then one day I happen to be going down the street where his church was and God told me to go check it out . So I Did. When I walked into the doors you could feel the spirit move it was like a curtain that you walk throught. I attended the church several time after that and then one day the Pastor prayed the Belevers prayed and asked if anyone had prayed that for the first time and I rasied my hand and I looked over and my wife had her hand raised too.
Victory:
That is awesome! So, did you life change completely that day?
Karl:
Yep, almost instantly.God has filled the void that all the other vices could not.
Victory:
So, if anyone who reads this is in a similiar position as you were, you could tell him or her:"there is still hope"?
Karl:
With God there is always hope. Even when things are there bleakest.
Victory:
Talking about your family, how are they doing today?
Karl:
We still have our problems form time to time but God helps us through them.
Victory:
Back to your band, it's has a strange name, actually it's called Strange Land. From where did you get that name?
Karl:
I wish that I could answer that but I can't. It was just a name we all agreed on.But you know we are living in a strange land.
Victory:
Okey, I heard some sneakpreview clips from you and it sounded promising, will you be releasing some stuff in a near future?
Karl:
Yes. We are going into the studio in the middle of july to do some recording and the new material is pretty cool.
Victory:
Will it be a full-lengther or an EP?
Karl:
To start out with it will be a 6 song EP but then we hope to put out a full lenght.
Victory:
Do you have enough material for a full lengther? Or what does it depend on either it'll be one or not?
Karl:
We don't have enough material yet but the way we have been writing lately you can never tell. We have 6 songs now but we have been working on a couple others.
Victory:
Are we talking about own material or will it be cover songs?
Karl:
Nope, Our own material.
Victory:
Cool. Any hints what it'll sound like?
Karl:
One song called The Enemy Has Fallen. Sounds Hammerfallish and then we have one called Jesus Walk that is kinda like AC/DC.
Victory:
Aah, that sounds like something we at VictoryZine would like to hear as soon as possible! When do you think it'll be released?
Karl:
Hopefully sometime in August.
Victory:
We'll wait for that one, that's for sure!
Karl:
Hey dude I Need to go i have to take my son to guitar lessons
Victory:
