I was more than happy when I heard that I would get the oppurtunity to get an interview
with one of the greatest bands out there, Tourniquet!
Victory:Hi you master of metal!
Luke:Hi thanks for your intrest in Tourniquet.
Victory:It has soon passed half a year since your
latest CD was released, what kind of reactions have you recieved from the media,
both Christian and Secular?
Luke:We have had great response from both the Christian and Secular markets
In addition to the usual coverage that we have gotten in the past from various
Christian outlets, we have also gotten coverage in new Secular outlets like
Metal Edge, Metal Maniacs, Kerrang and Modern Drummer. Some of the reactions
have been mixed, but overall, it has been good. People seem to really like the
new album.
Victory:Sounds great. Will you be touring this
summer? Any plans regarding visiting Europe?
Luke: No "tour" per se, but we are in the middle of a bunch of fly out dates.
We will be adding more as the months go by, and we certaintly want to get to
Europe as soon as we can. There are no plans yet, but we are looking at a
couple of things.
Victory:Many has claimed that Christians cannot
play metal, usually other metal bands seem to have difficulties to understand
it. What do you think about it?
Luke:Music is music. Without lyrics, there is
no real "message", so to say that anyone, because their belief system, can't play
a certain type of music is not right. We play the music we like to play, and we
fill it with what we believe. We're Christians, so our music reflects that. If
you're a Satanist, that will show in your music.
Victory:...as well as some Christians. I have
heard some saying that EVERY Christian that listens to metal will go to hell.
What kind of reactions do you get after hearing/reading something like that?
And if you would get the oppertunity to meet the guy behind the article that is
located at www.av1611.org/crock.html what would you say to the author?
Luke:You can't please everyone. Someone is always going to find fault with
something you do. Even Jesus faced this. Look at the religious leaders of His
time. I know my heart, and I know that God does as well. As long as I am in the
right place with God, the other stuff doesn't really matter. The Bible says that
you'll know who people are by the fruit their life produces. Our mail shows us
the fruit of our efforts. People writes us all the time telling us how a song
or lyric touched their life, and helped bring them to God, or encouraged them
to dig deeper and to seek an even stronger relationship with Him. I think that
sometimes people project their own fears and insecurities onto other people and
things, and then judge them in the light of their own problems and pain.
Victory:Well, now over to some more positive.
You have now been playing for over 10 year, what is the best memory you have,
from all these years?
Luke:I have been with Tourniquet for the last 7 of those 10 years, and
it has been great. I couldn't pick one thing that was the best, there's just
too many. I think that we're blessed to be able to do what we do, and to have
done it for as long as we have. We love to play live, and we love to create
new music. I think that the best part is that it is more than just cool songs,
or a cool live show; what we do has an impact on people lives. That's a great
blessing, as well as a huge responsibility.
Victory:Anything you want to tell about the
future plans with Tourniquet?
Luke:We're going to keep doing this for as long as we can.
We love doing it.
Victory:Finally name your five best CD's
and your favorite Bible quote.
Luke:I like a lot of different music. It would be too hard to pick my 5 favorite
ones. My favorite Bible verse would probably be Ecclesiastes 7 : 3 "Sorrow is
better than laughter, for a sad face is good for the heard"
Victory:Thanks alot brother for this, I really hope that you will
succeed in your mission!
Luke: I hope this is useful, and on behalf of Ted, Aaron and I, we wish you all
the best with your E-zine. God Bless you.
