VIP - Maahan Kauneuden

This is the first album I have bought after reading a review from my own site!(Thank you Whitewashed!) Well, I saw it far a bargain(5€) so I thought it could be a good investment. Specially after hearing Mr. Whitey's excitement about it.

Well, it's Finnish progressive metal/rock and it's pretty darn good. I'll tell you from the start this; the singer sings in Finnish(except in one song), so you can also use this album to take a course (or two) in the Finnish language.

The singer is quite good, he has a slight powerful metal voice with a good bottom and also some good peaks to it. Allthough it could be little more melodic, at times you wish that he could provide some soaring screams like Matt Smith of Theocracy. But it doesn't ruin the music and that's what's important.

As said, the music is progressive rock/metal, but it could also be called semi-progressive. I enjoy them most when they go exploring you new areas in the progressive jungle with sweet 7/8-beats. The guitarist has also a good ability to provide cool melodic shreddings, at times a bit Yngwie influenced ones. But hey, a small dose of Yngwie cannot go all wrong!

Actually my only two(minor) complains here is the lack of orginality and the fact that the songs could have had a little more variation. Since the production is pretty good(could have been a little more heavier though) I think that this is an album the guys should be proud of!

Little more variation in the songs could have helped this band to reach even higher mountains, but as it is now I'm sure it'll please many fans of good old prog! But guys, couldn't you do an album in English next time, because for many the Finnish-language barrier is too high to climb over!
