Antestor - The defeat of satan
|
After an awfully long silence from these pioneers, I was quite surprised to find this disc in my favourite online record shop (hello www.maanalainenlevykauppa.com).
It turned out to be a new release of the demo tapes `The Defeat of Satan´ and `Despair´ made back in 1991 respective -93. This is slow and heavy stuff, not exactly what to give your grandma for Christmas.
The older songs on this record seem a bit simple, containing pretty boring synths parts and there could been some variation of the vocals.
The production isn't really, as we say in Scandinavia, anything to hang into the Christmas tree, but that doesn.t really matters because it just strengthen the cult feeling of this album.
The newer songs (Despair) are much better, Antestor has developed a lot musically, and uses pretty much clean vocals too. These songs are in the same vein as the Martyrium album. The song `Jesus, Jesus ver du hjå meg` is one of the best I ever heard! It.s a slow traditional funeral hymn (these guys know how to party, don.t they?;) which is sung completely with clean, gotic style, vocals. They also use church organ and in the middle of the song a very cool guitar solo!! Antestor + guitar solo?? Who could imagine? This song is once again a proof that Antestor are the masters of sad metal. The lyrics are very strong Christian, telling about the lies of satan and the salvation.
If you are a fan of older Antestor stuff, this is a must for you, but hurry, this beautiful record is printed in only 999ex.
