Where can I
get the CD?

Crimson Moonlight - Song from the Archives

After the release of the masterpiece of the year, Covenant Progress, my favourite guys decided to release a CD containing earlier recorded stuff. As a result, this album isn't really one album but about four, so I go through them one by one:

Songs 1-5:
This is Crimson Moonlight's legendary EP, Eternal Emperor, one of the most symphonic blackmetal CD's I've ever heard. Where Darkness Cannot Reach, Eternal Emperor and The Final Battle are all really great stuff! This is why you should get this CD while you still can!

Songs 6-13:
This is an unnecessary liverecording that I can't understand why it's here in the first place. The soundquality actually sucks big time. You can hear synth, drums and screams, but sometimes nothing else. Why, oh why?

Song 14:
On the compilation In The Shadow Of Death the song Blood Covered My Needs is found. This song clearly tells where Crimson Moonlight was heading. A symphonic, yet very brutal song...like a mix between Covenant Progress and the Eternal Emperor EP maybe. Not with as good sound as Covenant Progress, though. This is a masterpiece!

Songs 15-18:
Before I saw that Songs From The Archives was to be released I didn't know that CM recorded a demo, Heralding The Dawn in 2001. This part continues on the same path as Blood Covered My Needs, symphonic but brutal, with some clean vocals here and there. Some of you may recognize Touch Of Emptiness, one of the great songs here. The last song here, A Thorn In My Heart (also on Covenant Progress) was actually recorded earlier and is here in another version.

Songs 19-20:
On the CD-cover it says that the following songs are The Pilgrimage and A Painting In Dark. To my suprise and pleasure "The Pilgrimage" start with a fast drumfill followed by a lot of screams...does it sound a bit like Mist Of The Spiritual Dimensions? But that's just fine for me, since it's just great to end this marvellous CD with the two best songs from Covenant Progress.

Style: Atmospheric black metal
Hot shots: Eternal Emperor EP, Blood Covered My Needs, Heralding The Dawn EP, The Pilgrimage and A Painting In Dark

Year: 2003
