What makes a CD special?
Of course you will need great musicians and a great singer but I think it is VERY
important that you have some great lyrics included as well.
I really love the lyrics that Purge, a doom influenced band from the USA, has produced.
Look at this: "You want to have your play about Jesus as a homosexual And I don't have the right to say how I feel But if I wrote a song about homosexuals won't inherit the kingdom of heaven, you'd want to kill me, you'd want to kill me" (Purge - Hate Crimes) Great stuff!! I have to admit that I was somekind of dissapointed when I first heard Purge, I was waiting for some death influenced doom metal, but Purge has a clean-singer. And he does a great job, he reminds me sometimes of the singer of Pearl Jam. But I have a feeling that a death-growling singer would fit perfect in Purge's music. But still the listener gets some high quality music. The production is almost crystal clear, and I really love their lead guitarist. There are several pieces on this disc that stands up, such as "Born Again", "Hate Crimes", "Closes Now" and "My recourse". So if you are tired of all those death/black-metal bands and want something new and fresh, I really recommend you to check this band out. Look for an interview soon... |
